The Caledonian Challenge: 16/17 June 2012

The Caledonian Challenge offers you ‘The Walk of Your Life’.

The goal is for your team to complete a spectacular journey through the Scottish Highlands, whilst helping to support communities close to the course and good causes close to your own heart.

The event takes place each year over one weekend in June. You will need to be in Fort William on the Friday evening to register. The event will take place in 2012 over the weekend of 16-17 June.

Since the Challenge was founded in 1996, more than 14,000 people have successfully taken part and raised over £11M, to support enterprising voluntary groups and community organisations close to the course and throughout Scotland.

A spectacular outdoor adventure

Your epic journey will take you through some of Scotland’s most famous, remote, rugged and stunningly beautiful highland landscapes.

The classic 54 mile challenge starts at Gairlochy, north of Fort William.  Your team will follow the famous Great Glen Ways and West Highland Way footpaths via Checkpoints at Fort William, Kinlochleven, Glencoe Mountain Centre and Inveroran, before finishing the Challenge at Auchtertyre, inside the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park.

an amazing physical achievement

Completing the Caledonian Challenge is an immensely satisfying experience.

The classic challenge is to complete 54 miles in 24 hours. It is the physical equivalent of completing the London Marathon twice, PLUS: in terms of the total amount of up and down, two ascents of Ben Nevis - all without sleep. It is tough - but it is achievable!

New for 2012: You can now choose a challenge to suit your fitness goals.

In addition to the classic 54 mile challenge, you can now opt instead to undertake a 26.2 mile course. This 'mini-challenge' runs from Glen Nevis to Glencoe. It contains the edited highlights of the classic course including the 550m continuous ascent out of Kinlochleven to the top of the Devil's Staircase and one of the finest views in Britain to behold. The 26.2 mile course makes for a stunning one-day Hike to be completed in 12 hours or a truly amazing off-road marathon to be completed in just 6!.

Our events are designed to be a challenge, but anyone with the right training, good support and a positive attitude can complete the course.
